The "Bee Responsible" program is focused on having city police officers build positive relationships with 5th graders in school.

Bee Responsible Program for 5th grade students

This program is a custom curriculum developed by Southington Steps C3 (Communities Creating Change) that helps New Britain students focus on health, safety and prevention. Bee Responsible is tailored to the needs of today’s students and communities. It addresses important topics to help students develop and harness positive skills and assets. This helps them become their best selves. The list of topics includes growth mindset, substance use prevention, online safety, mental health, and much more.

The Bee Responsible Program was developed with input from professionals in elementary education and substance use prevention. The curriculum uses real-world, group-focused activities to help students explore, interact with, and embrace concepts.

Modules in the curriculum include:

  • Internet safety
  • Cyber bullying
  • Positive mental health
  • Inclusivity
  • Refusal skills
  • Youth substance use
